Without a doubt, Doreen Lewis is the ‘Queen of Welsh Country Music’ and she has composed songs and sang for over thirty years, and her popularity is still proving strong.
A farmer’s wife from Ceredigion, she‘s been singing since she was 3 years old in concerts, at school, the Urdd and Young Farmers, and at eisteddfodau.
Her father bought her first guitar when she was fifteen years of age, and within three weeks she had written her own songs, and performed in concerts.
Although she first recorded an EP with Cambrian records, she has recorded nearly every record since with SAIN records.
Doreen composes nearly all her own songs- songs from other artists are an exception. “People send me things in the post, but I prefer if songs come from within, rather than from outside!” she says.
“Sometimes I feel that maybe it’s time to give the guitar a rest, but, as long as my health holds and the invitations keep coming, I will carry on. If some day I find performing to be a burden I will give it up, but as it is, I enjoy it more as the years go by!”
