Born in Ceredigion, Meinir Heulyn started playing the harp at the age of ten. After graduating from University College, Cardiff she continued her studies at the Genova Conservatorio. Since 1972 she has held the post of principal harp with the Orchestra of Welsh National Opera, with whom she has both performed and recorded extensively. She provided solo accompaniment to both Charlotte Church and Bryn Terfel on their best-selling albums.
From state functions to national events, corporate events to weddings and special occasions, Meinir Heulyn’s wide experience enables her to bring just the right touch to any situation.
Acknowledged as one of Wales’ foremost harp teachers, Meinir is co-founder of Telynau Morgannwg (The Glanmorgan Harp Guild) and Coleg Telyn Cymru (The Welsh Harp College), whose courses attract students and teachers from around the world. In 1997, she was appointed Co-coordinator of Harp Studies at the Welsh College of Music and Drama, Cardiff, now the fastest developing harp department in Britain.
Meinir pursues a busy solo career, appearing regularly with leading British Orchestras and opera companies, as well as numerous chamber ensembles.
Her speciality is the traditional music of Wales, which she has arranged, recorded and published extensively. Examples of her recorded arrangements are available on SAIN recordings, as well as her famous harp duets with Elinor Bennett.
