FFOADURIAID Tour – Steve Eaves

FFOADURIAID Tour – Steve Eaves

The singer composer Steve Eaves will be performing a series of mainly acoustic gigs to promote a newly-released 5 CD retrospective collection of his recordings – ‘“Ffoaduriaid(Ffoaduriaid (Sain CS 2633))”:http://www.sainwales.com/store/sain/sain-scd-2633’ (SAIN CD 2633). Following a recent concert at the National Library of Wales in Aberystwyth, the tour gets under way next weekend with two acoustic gigs at the Blue Sky Café at Bangor on Friday night, June 10th, and the Marine Hotel, Cricieth on Saturday night, June 11th, then on to various other venues through Wales before culminating on July 24th at Gŵyl Gardd Goll on the Faenol Estate at Bangor.

‘Ffoaduriaid’ (the title means “Refugees”) is a comprehensive collection which includes seven albums and various individual tracks released by Steve between 1984 a 1999. A singer and guitarist for over forty years, and an icon of contemporary Welsh music, his new long awaited collection spans material originally released on cassettes, vinyl and CDs which have long been unavailable.

In April 2011 Steve was presented with a Radio Cymru special award for his ‘lifetime contribution’ to Welsh music. His work has become an inspiration to audiences of all ages and to a new generation of Welsh musicians. Steve is also author of two volumes of poetry in Welsh, and this is evident in his finely crafted songwriting compositions. The ‘“Ffoaduriaid(Ffoaduraid (Sain CD 2633))”:http://www.sainwales.com/store/sain/sain-scd-2633http://’ collection includes landmark albums such as ‘Cyfalaf a Chyfaddawd’, ‘Croendenau’ a ‘Y Canol Llonydd Distaw’ – each recording showing an acute honesty and subtlety in dealing with subjects such as love and human relationships, spiritual themes and social injustice. The recordings show Steve’s blues, jazz and rock influences over the years.

Steve has a fine acoustic guitar-playing style and a sure sense of musicality, with a warm vocal delivery that has a bluesy rough edge. His band features some of the finest musicians on the Welsh scene, and some of these will be joining him on the tour, including his long time co-producer and collaborator Elwyn Williams (guitar / vocals) the fine double-bass player ‘Funky’ Pete Walton, percussionist and producer Gwyn ‘Maffia’ Jones and (for some dates) percussionist Owen Hughes.
