Bro Aled Male Voice Choir - Seiniau Hiraethog
Bro Aled is a cluster of rural communities in the shelter of Mynydd Hiraethog (or Denbigh Moors). This region, which links the Clwyd and Conwy valleys, is where the Choir draws its members – the land of Seiniau Hiraethog (‘sounds of Hiraethog’), our 5th collection of songs. This was also the home of Gwilym Hiraethog, the poet and preacher, whose famous hymn ‘Dyma gariad fel y moroedd’ (‘His love is as an ocean’) is in our collection. We thank Robat Arwyn for composing such a wonderful arrangement of the hymn for us. Our thanks also go to Tecwyn and Rhiannon Ifan for the powerful song ‘Peidio dysgu rhyfel mwy’ (‘Never learn to war again’) which reminds us of the futilty of the Great War and other conflicts.
It is over Mynydd Hiraethog that our young and talented musical director, Angharad Ellis came to us. We are so fortunate to benefit fromher musical skills and unending enthusiasm. Accompanying her in every practice and concert, Annwen Mair’s dancing fingers on the piano always inspires our singing. Supporting both is Ann Evans, who has been our loyal accompanist and copy organiser since the Choir was established in 1976. They are the ‘A Team’ trying to keep us in order! It has been an exciting period for the Choir, and we’ve had much pleasure performing the songs on this CD in concerts, in competitions, and on tour in Paris, Brittany and Scotland. By taking advantage of Sain Studio’s wonderful facilities and expertise, we can now also share the variety of songs with you. At home and in the car, we sincerely hope you enjoy listening to our ‘sounds of Hiraethog’.
