Geraint GriffithsGeraint Griffiths was born at Pontrhydyfen, Glamorgan to a Welsh musical family. Over the years, he’s lived in Cardiff and London but is now settled in Carmarthen. He trained as a nurse, and followed a career in the medical field for many years whilst also spending time on music.

He started to compose at the age of fourteen. He became a session musician, appearing on Edward H Dafis, Hergest and Delwyn Sion records, and on the rock opera Nia Ben Aur. He was well known as a rock band member in the seventies, with the shortlived ‘supergroup’ Injaroc and Eliffant. When Injaroc split up Eliffant was formed, with Geraint as main singer and composer. They released four LP records and a single. Eliffant were one of the most popular live bands of their time, and they liked to play their music loud! Geraint composed all of their songs, and they were about every possible theme, including space, motorbikes, out of this world visitors, love, loss, hope and Egypt! Probably the most popular was ‘W Capten’ which is still often played on Radio Cymru.

In 1984, Geraint started his career as a soloist, and recorded three LPs of his songs on SAIN records. He became well known from his appearance on ‘Teilwng yw yr Oen’ (1984), a Welsh version of the rock ‘Young Messiah’, which became very popular throughout Wales. He was also one of the solo singers on the single ‘Dwylo dros y Mor’ (1985). In 1992 Geraint established his own record label, Diwedd Y Gwt.
He started acting professionally in 1985, and is seen and heard regularly on television and radio.
Today, he takes interest in producing records for other people, as well as for himself. He still performs live, and appeared recently with the full band in a concert in aid of the tsunami victims.
