Y Trŵbz - Yn y Dechrau
Successful up and coming band Y Trŵbz from the Vale of Clwyd are looking to make their mark on the Welsh music scene with their new debut album ‘YN Y DECHRAU’. A combination of soaring riffs and powerful female vocals from Mared Williams – mainly rock orientated with Soul, blues and alternative influences.
A year ago, Y Trwbz was a relatively new name on the Welsh music scene but since winning last year’s Mentrau Iaith Cymru’s Battle of the bands competition and recording a few sessions for Radio Cymru their catchy rock songs have created a bit of a buzz and next week in the National Eisteddfod in Meifod the band will release their first album – ‘Yn y dechrau’ (In the beginning) on Copa records.
The last few months have been pretty manic for the band between studying for their A level exams and trying to find weekends to rehearse, write new material and record the album. Mared, the lead vocalist in the band, was also competing in this year’s Britain’s Got Talent competition on ITV with Côr Glanaethwy – she was the girl singing one of the opening lines to the song The Prayer during the live semifinals. There’s no doubt that Mared has an amazing and unique voice that’s very powerful and band member Morgan refers to this in a recent interview in Y Selar magazine ‘Mared is amazing. She’s won competitions in the Eisteddtod and stuff, she sings a lot. She obviously has talent’. And according to the Selar magazine ‘…in a scene that’s full of rock and indie bands with male vocals, Mared’s voice is a breath of fresh air’.
Y Trwbz list numerous influences including Foo Fighters, Paolo Nutini and Led Zeppelin and they’ve helped this young band shape and mould their own sound and style. The songs were all composed by the band and they’ve also recorded the album themselves without the guidance of a producer. Sain were happy to give them access to the studio in Llandwrog on weekends with Sion Jones acting as engineer – they were given the freedom to experiment and enjoy the studio experience.
