The Gentle Good - Tethered for the Storm
Yes, winter is upon us. Rain and leaves are swirling down. But wrap yourself in a blanket (preferably a Welsh quilt) and let Tethered For the Storm, The Gentle Good’s long-awaited second album warm you to the soul.
Gareth Bonello, the man behind The Gentle Good, captures the essence of old Welsh hiraeth in one CD. He feeds his original songs with the essence of traditional folk tunes, yet succeeds in delivering something new. A something that, as with all fine folk offerings, will stand the test of time.
Just as with The Gentle Good’s first album – While You Slept I Went Out Walking – we have a combination of bilingual songs. Even though the same magic is to be found in both albums, this time, Gareth Bonello has invited a number of other musicians to add to the mix. Cate le Bon’s unique voice weaves through the songs and the spine tingling accappella duet with Lisa Jen from 9Bach is a gem. Mavron String Quartet provide sensitive accompaniment, as well as Harriet Earis on the harp, Dewi Parri on the bass, Steven Goundrey on the electric guitar and Jack Egglestone on the drums (yes, drums). Llion Robertson’s fine skills as a producer gels the whole album together beautifully.
Be thankful for the wind and rain.
