RHYS MEIRION - RHYS MEIRION
This is Rhys Meirion’s first album.
Born in Wales, Rhys Meirion graduated as a Bachelor of Education, and was a teacher and head teacher before beginning his training as a singer. He was a prize-winner at the National Eisteddfod of Wales in 1996 and 1997.
He appears regularly in concert throughout Wales and has also appeared in concerts in The Albert Hall London, Barbados, Toronto, Ottawa and Florida.
Rhys made his debut as Edmondo in Manon Lescaut in The Glyndebourne Festival in 1999. His recent concerts include a New Year’s Day gala in Bridgewater Hall, Manchester and a gala for the Swansea Festival at St. David’s Hall, Cardiff, 1000 voices at the Albert Hall London and a live recording of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony for the BBC.
During the 1999/2000 season, as a member of the English National Opera, his roles included the Italian Singer (Der Rosenkavalier), First Armed Man/First Priest (The Magic Flute), and Nadir (The Pearl Fishers), Marcello (La Boheme, Leoncavallo), Froh (Das Rhinegold), Rinuccio (Ganni Schicchi), and Zinovi (Lady Mcbeth of Mtsensk). His roles for the 2001/2002 season include Rodolfo (La Boheme), Alfredo (La Traviata) and Nemorino (L’elisir d’amore).
