Maldwyn Theatre Company - Ann!
Ann Griffiths, the Montgomeryshire girl who died in 1804 aged only 29, is now recognised as one of the greatest hymn-writters in the Welsh language. She is reputed to have been a lively teenager, but became a Methodist in 1797 when she was 21, and started her acquaintace with John Hughes, Pontrobert, a teacher and a preacher.
S4C, the Welsh language TV channel, commissioned a musical based on the life of Ann Griffiths to be performed at the National Eisteddfod at Meifod. The performance was subsequently televised.
For the purpose of the CD, the songs were re-recorded with the original cast of around 200 young people from mid-Wales, at the Tabernacle Centre in Machynlleth and at SAIN Studios. The show was written by Penri Roberts and Derec Williams, who also directed this production, and Linda Gittins, the music director.
