DAFYDD IWAN - MAN GWYN
I composed most of these songs for the Tonfedd-Eryri TV programmes for S4C on Patagonia, North America and Corsica, and I thank Hefin and Marian Elis and all those responsible for those programmes for their constant support. I also thank S4C for their permission to use the original recording of four of these songs, but the rest have been recorded anew, and that in a matter of days; I must thank Maartin for making this possible, and for his talent and magnaminity.
Two other songs have been added as a bonus: “Daeth yr Awr, Daeth y Dyn”, my tribute to Gwynfor Evans, and a song I wrote for John ac Alun’s latest album, “Yr Ynys”.
The golden thread that runs through all these songs is the concept of Welsh patriotism and nationalism, and the dream of creating a new and better Wales in a far off land beyond the sea, or better still, here in this very land of Wales. (The album title comes from the Welsh proverb “Man gwyn man draw” / “A perfect place over yonder”)
