The Rhos Orpheus Male Choir - Orpheus Gold
The choir was formed in 1957 specifically to compete in the Llangollen International Music Eisteddfod. Rhos is a village that has produced numerous talented musicians, composers, poets and authors over the years and thus became known as “the village of talent”. In addition to the Orpheus, the village, over the years, has been home to two Male Voice Choirs, a Girls’ Choir, a Ladies’ Choir, a mixed choir and a Championship quality Silver Band.
Under the leadership of its former Musical Director John Glyn Williams, the Orpheus became one of Wales’ foremost male voice choirs, establishing an international reputation through its recordings and tours to many different countries. In addition to numerous trips to European, Canadian and US destinations, the Orpheus was the first western choir to visit China after the cultural revolution and in 1991 was the guest of the Haifa Symphony Orchestra on a tour to Israel where it gave a number of performances of Cherubini’s Requiem with the orchestra.
This CD has been produced to celebrate the choir’s golden jubilee.
