The word ‘soprano’ comes from the Italian ‘sopra’meaning ‘above’. We sopranos sing higher than everyone else, because we normally carry the melody. And oh, what beautiful melodies they are! This is a collection of some of the best in the classical world, across the ages and from many countries.
I had a magical journey in the ‘Sopranos’ series for S4C, learning the stories behind the greatest songs, and getting to know some of the colourful characters in the world of opera, oratorio and song.
