Ellen Williams - Skylark
Ellen grew up in south Wales surrounded by music, her mother being a renowned concert harpist, and much of the family involved in music in some way or another! Having gained a BA in Spanish and French from the University of Exeter, and enjoyed a year furthering her Spanish studies at the Universidad de Oviedo in Northern Spain, Ellen returned home prepared to pursue her first love – singing – and to study for an MA in Music Performance at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. Already a well known soloist in Wales, Ellen has appeared in concerts across the principality, and regularly appears on the media. She has had considerable success competing both nationally and internationally, notably in Oratorio and Early Opera, and traditional Welsh Folk singing. She has enjoyed performing in concert venues across the country and internationally, including a UK premier of Karl Jenkins’ The Bards of Wales, conducted by the composer himself.
This is a collection of songs that I love. Some I’ve grown up with and performed many times, one was part of the soundscape to my time in Spain, and another, Skylark, from which the album gets its title, is a reflection of home. A sunny afternoon spent walking my dogs Hudson and Kira across the common near where I grew up inspired the track entitled Skylark. The Lark’s ever changing song has remained a constant reminder of home, and as this collection of songs reflects my journey overseas, and back home again, somehow the Skylark’s song seemed a perfect metaphor. I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed living it!
