4Patagonia was formed in 1997 when Marcelo Griffiths (tenor), Billy Hughes (Baritone 1), Fabio González (Baritone 2) and Héctor MacDonald (bass) – came together in the town of Gaiman, Patagonia, to form a male voice quartet under the musical direction of Edith MacDonald.
The quartet was an instant success. The constant demand for their services is proof of their growing popularity. When they step onto the stage, audiences hush in eager anticipation.
The four members are well known in their community. Raised in the musical and eisteddfodic traditions still vibrantly alive in the former Welsh Colony of Patagonia, they participate actively in local and regional events – especially those related to their ancestral homeland’s language and culture. They have sung for Gaiman Music School’s choirs for many years and are currently members of its SATB and Male Voice Choirs. They toured Wales with the SATB Choir in 1997.
4Patagonia has won a number of competitions at the Province of Chubut Eisteddfod. In 2003 they were awarded the festival’s special prize for musical excellence. In the same year, they performed on the stage of Teatro Colón, Buenos Aires’s premier concert venue. Now, this CD provides the opportunity for their unique harmonies to be heard by a wider public.
Hector is a professional musician; Billy works in the wool industry; Marcelo is a music teacher and Fabio was trained as a lawyer.
